Update, a Year in the Making

Hey all!

I've been nearly silent on this blog. Truth be told, I just couldn't put anything to paper for most of the year, and what I did write came out like crap. That's all changed, however.

Back in Summer 2010, Kit and I put the finishing touches on The Saviors Series. Since then, I've been editing it, adding to it, and messing around with the order. December 2010, I declared it finished.

Originally, I was just going to post the entire thing straight away, all forty-something chapters. Various people talked me out of this, and now I have a different plan.

Every Monday, I'll be posting a chapter of the series on deviantART and FanFiction.net. Links will be added later.

I just want to add one thing. Most of the things that will be posted later on, poems and short stories, were written for a Creative Writing class at my community college. I got a lot of really good feedback, so I'm really proud of what I came up with. If any on them are reading this, thanks so much!

I'm going to go and post the prologue! Wish me luck!

This Is Going to Be Deleted So Fast...

I'm only posting this here because it's easier to link to this instead of writing out two separate posts on both Facebook and deviantart, just for a couple of friends.

Hey! By now you know that I'm writing another part of The Saviors Series called The Hunters. It's pretty much Zane's backstory in his hometown of sunny Los Angelus, California, with it continuing on after he leaves for Florida (and into the main series).

What I need is for you to tell me is the character's name (i.e.
Sophia Kysar, Shelbi Buroker), an actor/actress that can represent them, a song to represent them, and *if possible* a tektek.org avatar that can be them.

Restrections:
  •  Already Used Actors/Actress
    • Molly C. Quinn - [Taylor McKenzie]
    • Ellen Page - [Dakota McKenzie]
    • Dakota Fanning - [Aelia Turner]
    • Alex Pettyfer - [Zane Michaels]
    • Hayden Panettiere - [Shelbi Buroker]
    • Anne Hathaway - [Sophia Kysar]
  • Already Used Songs
    • Here I Am - Camp Rock [Taylor]
    • This is Me - Camp Rock [Dakota]
    • The Climb - Miley Cyrus [Aelia]
    • Welcome to My Life - Simple Plan [Zane]
    • Granuaile's Dance - Mairead Nesbitt [Shelbi]
    • I'm On a Roll - Destinee and Paris [Sophia]

The Saviors Series - Characters

My mom - who is pretty much my beta - was looking over the draft for the first story in the Saviors Series, The Travelers. You know, editing and what not. I wasn't really paying attention to her, as I was working on one of my review blogs. After about fifteen minutes of silence, I glanced over at her. She was giving the page a WTH look.

"What?" I asked.

"Where did you come up with these names?!" she laughed.

That was back in February 2009. Up until then, my answers were simple, one word or more. I really didn't want to go into detail. Now, well, what the heck.

As I mentioned in the backstory post, Taylor and Dakota came from a random name generator. Taylor was first. I told Kit to name her character, but to make sure it had six letters - I wanted some semblance of simalarities. She hit refresh for like an hour, depriving me of my laptop (this was before she got her own). Once she picked the name Dakota, we tossed around a list of last names. At one point, I offhandedly mentioned that McKenzie would laugh at us, if only to see us actually doing something productive. Kit said to use her name. So I did.

Zane Michaels is a name that I never expected to create. I usually hate "Z" names; they just bug me for some reason. Why did I chose Zane? I have absolutely no idea. No, seriously. I was writing his introduction scene, and wham! Zane was named. I still to this day have no idea where I pulled that one from. Michaels, on the other hand, is a two-part joke. On one hand, it's a lame-ass tribute to a character from a series of adult supernatural novels that I started reading in tenth grade - Women of the Underworld. On the other, it's a lamer tribute to the store that has supplied me with enough yellow shirts to make an army of Takuya Kanbaras (Yes, the one from Digimon Frontier. I still cosplay him, to this day.).

I created Gaia right after the beta started. I loved the name Gaia (side note: I also had just finished a Yu-Gi-Oh! story that had a world called Gaia...) and I used the random name generator on the site to create her last name, Chaosabyss. Kit had just used the random name generator to get Bella's name. (side note 2: Until we did our terrible web show that only lasted one episode - which I won't name - she never got the connection to Twilight. That's what made that joke so perfect. She wasn't expecting it XD) Zane was the same as Bella - random name generator go!

Aelia Turner is a funny story, just like her FusionFall name Aria Skylar. Aelia is the Latin name my friend chose the day we started Latin one together. (If anyone was wondering, mine was Annia. I also failed Latin. Miserably.) Her last name came from one of her favorite movies, Pirates of the Caribbean. She gave me full choice at her FaFu name, so I came up with Aria. Skylar is a name I've always loved, so I didn't mind giving it to her. When Aria made her story appearence, she wasn't even going to have a part in the actual series, until I wrote the last lines. Her first story was a contest piece on the now-deleted FaFu forums - I lost, but I got the chance to call the GMs on their own rules... I think my old Livejournal has that story.

As for the rest of the original characters, some were names of classmates, some were baby book finds. For the hell of it, the running list of original characters in this series:

  • Taylor McKenzie (later Michaels)
  • Dakota McKenzie (later Della Robbia)
  • Zane Michaels
  • Aelia Turner (later Daniels)
  • Reese Daniels
  • Hope Michaels [Taylor and Zane's daughter]
  • Faith Michaels [Taylor and Zane's daughter] (later Daniels)
  • Sean Michaels [Taylor and Zane's son]
  • Kellen Della Robbia [Dakota and Odd's son]
  • Kaitlyn Della Robbia [Dakota and Odd's daughter] (later Daniels)
  • Remus Daniels [Aelia and Reese's son]
  • Romulus Daniels [Aelia and Reese's son]
  • Akira Stern [Ulrich Stern and Yumi Ishiyama-Stern's son]
  • Miguel Belpois [Jeremie Belpois and Aelita Schaeffer-Belpois' son]
  • Ana Belpois [Jeremie Belpois and Aelita Schaeffer-Belpois' daughter] (later Stern)
  • Tsukino Shibayama [Junpei Shibayama and Izumi Orimoto-Shibayama's daughter] (later Minomoto-Kanbara)
  • Hiroki Minomoto-Kanbara [Kouji Minomoto and Takuya Kanbara's adoptive son]
  • Tracey Michaels [Hope's daughter]
  • Audrey Daniels [Faith and Remus's daughter] (Soon to be Stern?)
  • Johnathon Michaels [Sean's adoptive son]
  • Jenna Michaels [Sean's adoptive daughter]
  • Miko Stern [Akira and Ana's son]
  • Emiko Minomoto-Kanbara [Hiroki and Tsukino's daughter]
Two names on that list stand out. Johnathon is actually named for my father, John. I didn't want to come right out and say it, but I wanted my dad represented in some way. Sean is the Irish way of saying John, and I would have been named that if I had been a boy. In all actuality, I one day plan to name my own son that, if only to honor my father.

Alright, that's enough for this series. I think I probably made your eyes bleed with that list... I wonder what will be next...?

General FAQs

I figure that a lot of people have questions about some of my stories. So, if you have a question, comment here. I'll be making a running list and answer just about every one of them.

Two rules though. If the question is personal, please post it on my formspring, which is linked. If the question is too spoilerific, I might not answer it.

So, ask away!

The Backstory: Digital Magick

Basically, Kit and I were have one of our normal debates (at least for the 2006-2007 school year): who would survive at Hogwarts. We had gone through nearly every other fandom when I brought up the Digidestined (Adventure - Season 01). She swore that they would be the only ones that would survive. I said I doubted it.

Insert "Great Idea" Here.

So together, we created a basic template for this new Asian Wizarding World. Then I read the wonderful Gemeni Star01's story, Harry Potter and the Digimon Frontier. That kinda put our plans on hold, just for a year. In March 2008, I found the information while cleaning my room and brought it to her. We both decided that if we changed enough of it, it would be different. So that's what we did.

I wrote up the prologues between April 2008 and early 2009, before putting the project on hold for Saviors Series.  I'm embarressed to say that I put the project on hold from then on, even though I actually want to write it.

So I shall.

The Backstory: A Chosen Wizard

Ha! This backstory is easy!

I was on FF.Net one day, and I saw that someone wrote a SRMT/HP crossover. Being a Harry Potter fanatic myself, I just had to read it.

What I saw made me cry. I'm not going into detail about that part.

So, I set out to write my own SRMT/HP crossover, in canon. It's scripted to be three chapters, and I'm only through one. I started this thing back in... October 2007. (Excuse me while I bang my head into a wall.)

I really need to finish that...

The Backstory: Crystaln Prophecy

Oh God, where do I start with this one?

Crystaln Prophecy started as something I would entertain myself with at night from the age of five, when we moved to Florida. I grew up watching Sailor Moon and Sonic the Hedgehog, so elements of both were thrown together.

Soon it seemed that once my love of Sailor Moon cooled I wanted to begin to write. I started writing the first draft, Two Worlds, One Life, while sitting next to my dad in his hospital room when he was dying of cancer. As an aside, I must add that there must have been something in the air when I titled that first draft...

From then on, I added series, got rid of series, downsized someone (Sonic only appears for one part in the current draft)... I think this is rewrite number five. The title's changed many times, as well as the cast of characters. Heck, off the top of my head, Adrian came into the story at draft two or three, and has had about four different love interests since then. Oops.

The current draft was born only because I just want to finish the damn thing. I've got the whole thing storylined, nearly. Right now it stands to look like about 100 chapters, so I'm keeping with the breaking up thing.

Who knows where this story will go next?

The Backstory: The Saviors Series

I've had a lot of people ask me where I could possibly come up with this series. It's actually a simple, one word answer: Kit. Yes, my sister.

I started playing FusionFall in late December 2008, during the last Beta session. I even got mom to buy me a subscription once the game went live in January 2009. I loved it, and would often play it, every night after finishing my homework.

Around the same time in the real world, I was having a lot of trouble in one of my classes at school (I was a senior). Luckily, it wasn't the work, but some of the students (I really don't want to go into detail). We - my mom, sister, and I - demanded that I be switched out of the class. Because it was my last semester in school, there was no way for me to move into another class. So, instead, I was placed in the In School Sespension room. (Side note: that really helped my waning self esteem and social status).

I couldn't do anything in the room that I used to do. Unlike every class in the school, all iPods had to be completely off. So, I was bored.

I was complaining to my friends at lunch around mid-January. I had only been in the ISS room for about two days, and I was already going mad. I actually was tempted to storm back into the office and demand that I get switched back!

Kit gave me this look over her sandwich. One that said You-carry-two-different-two-five-subject-notebooks-with-you-everyday-and-you're-bored?! I just looked back at her, completely brain dead.

"Oh for the love of... what's your new favorite MMO?" she growled.

"Um... FusionFall?" I had no idea where she was taking this.

"And how many characters have you made in the game yet?"

"I made Gaia, and you made Bella."

"Then write a story with them in it!" She yelled, and hit me upside the head with something in her backpack. I think it was her English notebook, just for the irony. All of my friends laughed at it. I pulled out one of my notebooks and started planning.

Dakota and Taylor McKenzie were Kit and I at the base level, for about five minutes. Then their characters exploded. Both of their given names were from a random name generator. Their last name, McKenzie, was quickly chosen in honor of one of our dear friends, who was so soft spoken and kinder than anyone on Earth, and we both love her lots.

I plotted out The Travelers that day. It was only meant to be a couple chapters. Then I decided that it needed a spark of romance, so Zane Michaels - Blake Chronoabyss - was born.

When I finished The Travelers in mid-March, I couldn't let them go. So, I added the epilogue which led to The Warriors, combining FusionFall with one of my old favorite French cartoons, Code Lyoko.

The Warriors took forever to write. I didn't have an outline, and then summer started. I finally finished it, as well as The Protectors, while I was housesitting at Kit's house for a week. I wrote a total of twelve chapters in four days, as well as character profiles. In case you're wondering, that's why the quality of the writing sucked towards the end.

So, you can all thank Kit for the insanity that is The Savior Series!
